“There is always a story to tell when you are “the founder” of a business.
I had not imagined being a founder at an early age, but during my various (and there were many) different careers I felt a deep sense that there must be more to this ‘working thing’. Each role prepared me for the next and I knew I had to start my own business. I tried a few, and failed, and finally found myself in the right place, at the right time with the right people. When I founded Up Time there was absolutely no doubt in my mind. My days were packed with new projects, client relationships and awesome consultants. Being able to contribute to others’ success was the best reward over the years. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.
My advice to anyone who has a burning desire to do something, or change what you are doing, is work with your fears, your doubts (and others) follow your heart and gut.
Don’t be fooled into doing a huge business plan (unless you need finance), rather have a clear vision, know the market and your competitors, plan and work towards that – one day at a time.
Build relationships internally and with your clients and new clients. Don’t forget your family and loved ones you come home to.
Have FUN. Some days are more fun than others but remember to enjoy every moment. Moments are all we have.
Having handed over the baton to @Nichola Berner and her team, I’m off on sabbatical and about to have some more serious fun in the next phase of my life. Who knows what the future holds?”
